Some of us will take any opportunity to bring our back libraries out of the theater, and perhaps the best way to keep your Steam program library imminent is a handheld PC.  Whether the popularity of hand-held PCs comes as a result of the lack of desktop Si available at the moment is hard to say, simply Valve's recent declaration of the Steam clean Deck was such a hit it's hard to snub the trend. In fact, just moments after the $5 reservations went alive, the Steamer Deck page of the Steam store was so overwhelmed it stopped working.

In the radioactive dust, we're faced with a gloomy outlook in price of Steam Deck availability. New reservations placed for the 64GB Steam clean Coldcock South Korean won't send off until young 2022, and as for the cardinal higher-end Steamer Deck models, buyers shouldn't expect to birth matchless in their hands until July 2022 at the early.

If you're one of the many another World Health Organization missed out on the early Steam Deck reservations, and are still looking out for a handheld comfort to play your PC games on, never fear! There are much much immediate alternatives natation around.

With apiece of the handhelds we've rounded up below, what you'Re acquiring is a fully up Windows 10 PC gaming device with the ability to take any game library you would have along your desktop with you wherever you pass away. These may not comprise super powerful machines that'll see your figure rates soaring in the hundreds, simply they can appropriate in the palm of your helping hand—if you have particularly handsome hands, anyways. Nevertheless, these sorts of devices are much more viable for gaming active nowadays.

Some of these, having been the consequence of crowdfunding campaigns, may non be the easiest task to find out new and unused, but they are at least available ahead the middle of next twelvemonth.

We touted the GPD Win 3 as the Switch alternative we'd been waiting for before the Steam Beautify popped up. It's a modern hand-held Personal computer gaming twist, and a worthy contender to the shrilling-stop Steam Deck models, though it comes in at roughly doubled the price.

Released this year, both configuration options come with a 1TB NVMe 3.0 SSD (PCIe 4.0 drives are also supported), 16GB LPDDR4-4266 RAM, and utilise Intel's four-core, eight-wander Core i5 1135G7 pattern with 4.2GHz boost or Marrow i7 1165G7 model with 4.7GHz hike. Both chips come equipped with Intel Xenon graphics to drive the gaming experience.

In terms of gaming performance, the Indiegogo page reckons the Core i5 and i7 models can average 42fps and 49fps respectively in Microsoft Trainer, as well as 47fps and 61fps in our favoured benchmark game Metro Book of Exodus. It doesn't note what settings were misused in examination, however. At 720p that's entirely viable, though probably only after tuning the graphics setting to low.

 Aya Neo

The Aya Neo was marketed as the world's first 7nm handheld gambling device. Having gone on sale in March, it's another relatively modern option, and comes with the red squad's Zen 2 computer architecture, for the AMD enthusiasts among us.

It packs a half a dozen-core, six-thread AMD Ryzen 5 4500U APU, with 4.0GHz supercharge, and 16GB LPDDR4X-4266 Drive in. You can take between the 512GB model or the 1TB model, and in that respect are cardinal colour options for each (black or clean).

As for gaming performance, this 720p device is aforementioned to be able to handle Cyberpunk 2077 at low settings at 20fps, reported to GBAtemp. It even managed Horizon Zero Dawn at around 30fps on average, and Outriders at 23fps on low/medium settings.

So while it's non going to pump out AAA games at breath-taking frame rates, you privy at least grab the Aya Neo right in real time connected the official store for $925, or $1,015 for the higher storage capacitance model (taxes not included).

OnexPlayer

The OnexPlayer, which we reviewed earlier this year, is one of the high resolution handheld PC gaming devices around, albeit the chonkier at 1.8lbs (820g). Backed by a hugely successful Indiegogo safari, there were three options happening initial release: Standard Version, Pro Edition and Final Edition.

To each one tier comes with a varied Intel Tiger Lake SoC: the Core i7 1135G7, Core i7 1165G7, Beaver State Core i7 1185G7. These are linked with 512GB, 1TB or 2TB of NVMe SSD entrepot, and backed by 16GB of LPDDR4X-4266 Drive in and a touch screen, to boot.

The configuration we tested was a trifle different to those for sale, but generally we found information technology pretty reliable at 720p, though not so much at its native 2560×1600 pixels. With artwork set to low in Shadow of the Grave Raider IT averaged 35fps, and managed 60fps in GTA V. This is the benign of performance to be expected from a handheld device—basically, don't expect to be playing Cyberpunk at 1600p.

On release, OnexPlayer models went for $1,059, $1,158, and $1,599 respectively, and seeing as the campaign only fitting over, the likeliness of finding a second hand single right-wing now is pretty low—the live chip shortage won't assistant either.

I'm told there May be plans to get the device on sales agreement for the general exoteric soon, still.

Katie Wickens

Screw sports, Katie would rather take in Intel, AMD and Nvidia go at IT. She can frequently be found admiring AI advancements, sighing ended semiconductors, or gawping at the latest GPU upgrades. She's been obsessed with computers and graphics since she was small, and took Game Art and Design adequate Edgar Lee Masters level at uni. Her thirst for absurd Raspberry Principal investigator projects wish never be satiate, and she volition stop at nothing to spread internet safety awareness—down with the hackers.
